Result - The Bar of England and Wales

Sun Jul 2nd Grannies narrowly defeated in high-scoring thriller

Match report

The Grannies batted first. There was an electric start with Oli Panton racing to 17 before driving to cover and falling to a good catch. Mark de St Croix was next to go perhaps unlucky to be LBW, before a 110 partnership between Tom Panton and Billy Maisey. Billy was out just after reaching 50 and Tom was eventually out for 80. Late runs from guest Jim Davis (18) and Mark de SC's 13-year-old son Sam (a highly promising 9*) resulted in us closing at 35 overs on 216 for 8.
The Bar opened with Jamie Williams (41) and Alex Bryant putting on 37. Muhammad Ahmed came in and hit the ball long and far for 62. Ed Gross was bowled, quite cheaply for him, by Maisey while Jim Davis bowled an excellent spell of spin, taking 2 wickets. The match-winning innings of 40 odd came from Q Newcomb, carrying the Bar home in a nail-biting finish by 4 wickets with two balls to spare.
