Result - Old Spots

Sat Jun 8th Lost due to too much cake at tea

Match report

One man and his cake....

Grannies 203 for 8 (40 overs)
Old Spots 207 for 5 (38.2 overs)

The Old Spots skipper, David Leng, had a superb game and his 5 - 17 and 65 (off not many) was the difference between the sides. In the end the winning margin was quite comfortable..5 wickets with 10 balls to spare..but the Grannies were always in it.

In fact after winning the toss and electing to bat after 8 overs we were 50 odd for no loss with CHarles Walford and Big Jim rattling along..then Leng knocked over the top and middle order in swift succession and left Scottie to scratch around for 45 minutes before finally finding his timing..and partnered by Granny debutant Tommy Hope-Dunbar managed to steady the ship and give Siebs and Hillers a platform for a very entertaining final partnership.

HAM SANDWICH anyone? Perhaps a slither of cake with that sir?

A wealth of seam bowlers in the ranks with the ball moving dramatically at times with the swing /slope /wind but still we couldn't get amongst them. Stanners bowled beautifully...George Marsh's economic run up meant Stanners didn't have much of a rest at the other end...and Tom Gibbs brought silence to the ground (apart from the 5 times he hit one chap in the box!) as we all took a sharp intake of breath at the pace and bounce. After siebs had been shopping with his offies it was Hillers and Walford who gained control (with the exception of one Walford over).

The Old Spots always get the most out of their players and know how to play this pitch. THe Grannies, however, know how to eat cake.

We lost...but had a great day...as usual.

Match info

A new fixture for the Grannies in 2006 this is a beautiful, privately owned ground attached to a pig farm deep in the heart of Surrey. No coincidence then that the ham sandwiches at tea are some of the best you'll taste! The Old Spots play their cricket in the same spirit as the Grannies which makes for a competitive but friendly game. Nice place to bring the family too.

In 2006 we gave them a hiding...and in 2007 they beat us in a more balanced contest, but it is fair to say that we didn't perform to our potential. 2008 was our year once again with a good total to defend, 2009 we lost the game with poor bowling and fielding but in 2010 we gave them a good cuffing..

Location
Follies Farm,
High Street Green,
Chiddingfold,
GU8 4YB

How to get there
Follies Farm is a mile out of Chiddingfold on the road to Dunsfold. Chiddingfold is on the A283 about halfway between Milford (just off the A3) and Petworth. Heading south on the A283 at Chiddingfold turn left at the green (not the cricket pitch). Follow this road out of Chiddingfold for about a mile and take the first turning left. Follies Farm is on the right hand side. The ground is not visible from the road but is down a track perpendicular to the road running through the farm. Mind the pig!
