Result - The Dusters

Thu Jun 7th Grannies win by 6 runs

Match report

Having recovered from the shock of seeing the stumps in the 2nd XI track for the first time in ten years The Grannies started well by winning the toss and deciding to bat rather than face quick bowling in the dark.

After a poor fielding display from the Dusters we posted 162 off 20 overs for the loss of only three wickets. Paul Knight and Adrian West retired on 30 each, Matt Ansbro, Matt Webster and Dom Fry all got 25 and Monster chipped in with 12 and Hugo got 1. James Philpott, the flat track bully, arrived late to collect his TFC.

The oppositions usual plan of bemoaning exam week and how hard it is to get a decent side together, then came into its own.

John Davies got their top 1st XI batsman for 3 with a thin edge through to Bob Percival, great take about 4" off the ground. They then produced two Australian exchange teachers who proceeded to hit Hugo and Dom all round the ground. They quickly made there 30s and walked and what had looked like a good total was rapidly looking like thirty runs short.

The skipper then threw down the stumps from 25 yards to despatch another big hitter before the next member of the current 1st XI arrived, Arjuna Ranatunga's son, who treated us to a display of cultured Sri Lankan batting which soon saw him reach his 30.

Matt Ansbro, Matt Webster and Paul Knight all bowled very tidily to keep a lid on things but as ever it came down to the last over with the Dusters needing 11 to win. Knighty bowls a wide and they push for a couple but Bob runs out one of their slower hitters when they go for the second.

With some crafty bowling Paul Knight manages to restrict them to a further three runs off the over giving them a total of 156 and we sneak home by 6 runs.

Good time had by all apart from JP although he did sneak a late pass to the pub as he was staying away from home.
