Match report

The Grannies arranged to meet The Invalids at The Bull at 12.30. By 2 o'clock The Bull was awash with Grannies but The Invalids were conspicuous by their absence - interesting tactic!

The Grannies won the toss and elected to field. The pitch was quite damp after the week's rain. The Invalids started slowly but Ewan Gilmore played a Captain's Innings and they declared for 154 for 4. Bowlers of note were Harry Yeates who took the first wicket and in 7 overs only had 13 runs against him; Sam Weston-Simons, the other opening bowler, had 3 maidens from 10 and only 7 runs but sadly no wicket; Rupert Back was 2 wickets for 2 runs before The Invalids got into top gear.

The Grannies dropped 7 catches - what do they brew Harvey's with nowadays?! I won't mention any names aside of the Captain whom from mid-off tried to take a catch from Christian Rooney's bowling which was travelling at pace and regretably left him requiring stitches from the opener Dr Sam. How very relieved the Captain was to have a Dr in his team. Apologies for the gory photos.

The batting was a day for future Granny candidates - Martin Pryke scored 37 and Ben Scott 29. Real Grannies were looking for boundaries and Christian Rooney scored 28. The remainder were caught or run-out for not many! Having been 66 for 6 we finished 139 all out with 2 overs remaining so there was plenty of excitement.

Special mentions of thanks to Alice Yeates and my wife Emma for being so helpful with tea, childcare and nursing skills. Also, of course, to Dr Sam for his bowling, batting, catching and stitching. My local nurse was extremely impressed with his handywork this morning. What a shame Rupert Back had to leave so quickly that he didn't have time to have his broken toe examined too!

Several Grannies, and indeed some Invalids, adjourned to The Bull for some post-match discussion.

A great day and many thanks to all.
