Result - Bar of England & Wales CC

Sun May 18th Grannies win by 28 runs in 40 overs match

Match report

The Bar won the toss and inserted the Grannies in this 40-over match, in which the match manager deserted to play for the Bar. Paul Knight and Ed Warner compiled an attractive opening partnership, but runs were hard to accumulate on a slow outfield. Paul was finally out for 65 and Ed 59. There was then a clatter of wickets but amidst some wayward bowling, interspersed by fine fielding, the Grannies achieved a total of 206. The Bar opened with 2 Grannies candidates. Each batted colourfully, Mat Gullick making 33 and Jamie Williams 67, including five 6s (apparently the first of his life). A mature change attack of Fernie, Bagley and Begg then contrived to take 6 wickets between them (3, 2 and 1 respectively)and the Bar finally mustered 178, leaving the Grannies winners by 28 runs, interestingly one less than the total of the wides and no balls bowled by the Bar. An early win then for the Grannies...but mixed feelings for the m/m.
