Having had the two games of cricket cancelled, a hardy crew were looking for some salvation of the Malvern weekend.
After meeting for some lunch at Cleeve hill Golf Club, a course on top of the hills outside Cheltenham. Two groups consisting of John and Jennie Newton with Jim Streeter set off first followed by Adam Newton, Gerald Slocock, Paul knight and Jon Staniforth.
For the first nine holes all was proceeding reasonably smoothly, apart from the golf that is. We then hit weather that had to be experienced to be believed. Some of us naively thought our windproofs would be some defence against the elements but with high winds and torrential rain coming at right angles we were completely sodden in seconds. It was then accompanied by mist/cloud which cut visibility to a few yards. The golf became a question of who could hit the ball without the club accompanying it and also trying to find the right direction to hit the ball.
Both groups did manage to complete the rounds but I know it took almost a week for my kit to dry out!!!
The winner: Not sure as the second group's scorecard disintergrated before we could finish!
