Result - Parham Park CC

Sun Jul 20th Match Drawn

Match report

Despite two last minute absentees, we secured an exciting draw against Parham Park, whose ground lies in front of the beautiful Elizabethan Parham House at the foot of the South Downs. On a breezy summer's day we lost the toss and were put into field. Parham lost their three best batsmen to a fine opening spell by the Walden brothers, with Oli taking 3 for 24 off 10 overs with in-duckers and Frank, 1 for 24 off 7 with away swingers. Then a long partnership followed which we could not dislodge until the old Pro, Bagley, snaffled a wicket in his eight over spell (one too many!). Parham declared their innings at tea at 202 for 5 after 45 overs. With our Kiwi ringer and prospective Granny, Julian Graham, we were full of confidence but after an early mis-communication which left Andy Carr stranded amidships and Julian holing out to a ball which popped, our confidence started to wane. However, Ashley Butterworth, was still there squirting the ball in all directions for an entertaining 40 and a breezy 47 by skipper, Draff, gave us a glimmer of hope. But after stoical resistance by Ed Daffarn (who aslo took a great catch) and time running out we ended up 59 runs short at 143 with our final pair defiant to the last.
