Result - The Armadillos

Sat Jul 5th Grannies lost by 80 runs

Match report

The grannies fielded a strong team for this game, which was fortunate given the opposition's similar strategy - Tony Scott Gall having handed over the team picking to his two sons.

We won the toss and elected to field. Unfortunately their Australian opener proceeded to make a sprightly hundred with only Simon Leefe (2 - 35) and Draff (3 - 40) keeping the batting side in check. If we had held a few of the sharper (and less sharp) chances in the field, a lower total may have been yielded.

Set 261 off approximately 40 overs was always going to be a challenge, but we set to it with gusto, and would have got there if we had not kept losing wickets at the wrong moment, as momentum was building. First Leefe was given out somewhat unfortunately LBW for 33, Tom Hamilton then caught for 30, and Hugo Llewelyn lamely giving up a catch for 41 (of which 36 came in boundaries). Nigel Draffan made a quality 24, but no one really got going, and in the end even a rear guard 11* by new boy Richard Vaughan could not prevent the collapse of the tail and victory to the Armadillos.

A fun match though all round, and lots of good will generated, ready for the return next year.
