Result - Goodwood CC

Sun Jun 8th Grannies succumb by a few.

Match report

This was a game in which the Grannies were always behind the eight ball. The Goodwood team were unbeaten for the season coming into the game and they got off to a solid start after being invited to bat.

Having rediscovered his swing, the match manager removed both openers in a short spell but despite the efforts of Bob Robinson and Jon Staniforth and the guile of Archie Clarke and Mike Fernie, the home team piled on the runs until Billy Maisey stemmed the flow as tea approached. Billy deservedly picked up a wicket and Stanners successfully appealed for an lbw in his second spell. In between times, the Grannies produced some comical fielding to entertain the crowd. Goodwood declared on (circa) 180 for 4 wickets.

In reply, the Grannies lost wickets at regular intervals. Nigel Draffan top scored with 32 and there were twenties for Billy, Simon Clarke and the match manager, but the wily spinners ran through the middle and lower order to secure victory by 63 runs.

At least the sun shone and the setting was glorious. Many thanks to the eleven that played.
