Result - Eton Ramblers

Sun Aug 5th Grannies lost by 220 runs (50 Overs Game)

Match report

On the hottest day in England this year the Grannies entered the game with a depleted bowling attack and paid for it with two very good Rambler batsmen both getting chanceless scores of over 150 (although Chris Spencer appeared unlucky not to get one of them lbw relatively early on). Frank Strachan unfortunately arrived an hour after the start which meant that we were unable to exert a lot of pressure in the field early on when the bowling was reasonably tight. With Granny fielding varying between the very good and the hapless the Ramblers reached a massive 400 for 3 in their 50 overs. Honourable mentions go to Nick Watson, Dominic Ely and Paul Knight for trying very hard and taking one wicket apiece.

With such a formidable total to chase the Grannies were never in the hunt with Ed Gardiner-Hill, James Philpott and Ed Warner all falling early. Respectability was added late on with Nick Watson (21) and others adding a few before Paul Knight scored a late 58* to take the Grannies total to 180 all out.

After four years of very good wins for the Grannies and having snatched victory from the jaws of defeat last year this was a crushing win for the Ramblers on the back of two great batting performances from high class batsmen which the Grannies simply weren't able to match. Thanks to those who put in the effort and tried hard in the field.

Match info

Played on a superb pitch after a few years in the doldrums this has become a Grannies' favourite with a great victory in 2006 thanks to some inspired batting by the Bobs (Robinson and Percival) in the tail last year. This is a limited overs fixture.
