Match report

Not a great day for the Grannies James Pullens Griffin side proved too strong this year. Having won the toss they elected to bat. Despite a fine spell of accurate bowling from Jim Robinson (eventually ending with 4 wickets) and possibly a dozing umpire denying Chris Tannous a stumping off Stans bowling they eventually declared at 253 for 7.

After tea (graced by Willoughby and Carrie honour!) the Grannies looked solid enough in the opening overs until the Brigadier pulled a wide ball onto his stumps and JTLW was adjudged LBW.16 for 2. Redemption seemed nascent in the form of Nick Watson and Frank Strachan until Frank was given LBW (3 yds down the track, going down leg Frank; absolutely plumb! Umpire) rounding off a bad day for him as he had spent 3 hours negotiating South London traffic on the way down. At 30 for 3 things got worse, saved only by a spirited knock from Harry Yeates (24 not out) getting us to a not terribly respectable 75.

After a few beers in the Griffin Garden (James Pullens jug for his 50 seemed to refill magically) it didnt seem so bad and theres always next year as long as we can knobble Ed Hooper whose 7 overs, 4 Maidens, 6 for 3 rather did for us this time round.
