Result - St. Benedict's Masters

Thu Jun 21st The Grannies lost by 3 runs

Match report

An excellent game in Perivale saw the Grannies just fail to make the 20 needed off the last over to win.

The Masters won the toss and after 8 overs were 8 for 3, thanks to some stupdendous bowling from John Davies and Oli Waldren. John took 3 for 3 from his 4 overs with his fast, accurate stuff and Oli's induckers were virtually unplayable and he was very unlucky not to take a wicket.

After that the Masters reached 134 for 5. Ed Warner, in his own words, "bowled like Nigel Reo-Coker." Ash Butterworth's chinamen did turn when they hit the cut bit and both debutant Steve Bull and Tim Haynes put in a shift on a rock hard pitch. We all remember that their sub fielder let a 4 and a 2 through his legs......

In reply, Larry Brennan hit an elegant 40 before retiring and Mark de St C hammered 21 but we were always just off the pace. Eddie Daffarn hit some lusty blows in his 23 not out but then at 9-15 in the dark 20 off 6 and then 9 off 3 was just beyond him and the captain who ran like one of his pigs in his field.

The Venerable Willoughby umpired but wouldn't give us wides when they bowled down the leg side, but he did make an Abramovich like appearance in the dressing room afterwards. It's always great to see him and have him around Grannies matches. Thanks to all who played, especially Steve Bull from the Oxon shires who stepped in late on, and to St Benedicts for their hospitality, their PRE-match tea, and their giving us a sub fielder........

Match info

One of our very enjoyable and competitive London 20 overs a side games. Decent wicket. Limber up for the Cornish tour or the Wine Trade game with a high octane thrash. Very accessible from West and Central London
