Result - The Hurlingham Club

Sat Jun 16th The Grannies lost by 2 wickets.

Match report

A thrilling match! Having lost the toss the Grannies were put into bat to declare on 291 for 8 off 50 overs. A rounded performance with a great 85 from Alex Rushent 30s to 40s from Frank Strachan, Patrick Tolhurst, Lawrence Brennan and Oliver West. A strong shower at lunch ensured that the boundaries were not as plentiful as it can be on their beautiful ground.

Due to a couple of injuries we were a little light on bowling, Leo Avery was leading wicket taker with 3 for 50 ish, Paul Knight and Olly West both bowled well at a batsman who ended up with 140 not out - a very good player, although dropped a couple of times (to hard catches), he always had them in the game.

At the start of the last over they were 282 for 8 - therefore needing 10 to win. Ed Brennan bowled three dot balls, a single only to bowl a no ball full toss which their strong batsman pretty much cleared the pavilion for six! Ed might blame the slippy ball from the rain but it was not wet! All he can do is apologies...... They then edged 4 runs to win them the match.

I will say that it is frustrating to lose but when we play in high standard games like this when the balance of the game goes back and forth, (let alone the thought of a draw), right down to the last ball when everyone has contributed - they are very fun.
